Caroline Seger announced already in the spring that this season would likely be her last, and in the summer, she gave the message:
Every arena I visit now is the last time. My contract expires in December, and then it's over, she said to SVT.
However, during the fall, the 39-year-old has hinted on her Instagram account that she might only play her last minutes in the Rosengård jersey.
"Feeling that it's okay"
When the SM gold was secured on Friday evening at home on Malmö IP via 2–1 against Kristianstad, the midfielder gave a vague answer about the future.
I need to land in everything that has been. Football-wise, it's been incredibly fun, incredibly good. I don't think I'll ever experience a year like this again, she says with the gold hat on her head.
I need to get permission to finish this, see what happens then. It's quite nice to stop at the top, but I need to get to that place and feel that it's okay to leave football.
Rosengård has won all 22 league matches this season and secured the SM gold with four rounds left to play. Extra impressive considering that a player on the team has repeatedly received serious threats during the season.
Moreover, the club was shaken this week – after Monday's away win against Piteå – by an internal conflict. Caroline Seger went on the attack against the club's football manager Roger Palmgren, who took office before the season. This after Palmgren, in Olof Lundh's podcast, described his role in this year's success. An image that was not shared by Seger.
I can't stand that he, who hasn't been involved at all, tries to take credit, said the 39-year-old to Aftonbladet after she expressed the same opinion on her Instagram account, accompanied by a poop emoji.
"Top one"
The turbulent season makes Seger value her seventh SM gold extra highly.
Considering everything that has happened, both on and off the pitch. That we are unbeaten so far. I don't think you can achieve much higher than what we've done. It's probably top one, she says on Malmö IP's inner pitch.
Has what happened bonded you together?
It's hard to analyze it, but we've been very tight as a group. Stood up for each other, and it's been visible on the pitch as well, says Caroline Seger.
