USA destroys threatening vessels in the Red Sea

Forces from the USA have during the last 24 hours destroyed two ships belonging to the Huthi movement in the Red Sea, according to the regional command Centcom. But the situation in the area is now so tense that Israel's southern port has gone bankrupt.

Centcom does not mention what type of vessel it was, but it is said to have "constituted a clear and acute threat" in the area.

Ever since the outbreak of war in Gaza, the Houthi movement in Yemen has attacked vessels in the Red Sea to avenge Israel.

This has had a severe impact on maritime traffic in the region. According to the industry website World Cargo, cited by Israeli and Arab media, Eilat's port was recently forced into bankruptcy.

The port is the only one in southern Israel and previously received, for example, all cars imported to the country from manufacturers in East Asia.

The maritime traffic that previously went to Eilat has now been diverted to Israel's ports in the Mediterranean.
