An unvaccinated school-age child in the American state of Texas has died due to measles – the first American death from measles since 2015.
The child was hospitalized last week, according to a statement from the local health authority. The child died during the night of Wednesday.
The measles outbreak in rural western Texas began at the end of January. A total of over 120 cases have been confirmed in the area – which, according to the authorities, is the largest outbreak in nearly 30 years. Most of those affected are children.
Nine cases have also been confirmed in eastern New Mexico.
