More than 22,000 people - including school children - will receive training in drone skills, announces Lithuania's defense and education department in a joint statement, according to The Guardian. The initiative is described as part of "increasing education in civil resilience".
Students in third and fourth grade, i.e. children between eight and ten years old, will learn to build and fly simple drones. High school students will design and manufacture drone parts, and learn to build and fly more advanced drones, the government announces.
Just a couple of weeks ago, at the end of July, a Russian live-loaded drone was discovered that had made its way to Lithuania through Belarus. Lithuania's Foreign Minister Kestutis Budry then wrote to NATO chief Mark Rutte and asked for "immediate measures to strengthen Lithuania's air defense capabilities".
