”Israeli authorities have rejected applications from dozens of non-governmental organizations to bring in life-saving goods”, write among others Doctors Without Borders, Save the Children and Norwegian Refugee Aid who have signed the demand.
The heavily criticized US and Israel-supported Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which handles almost all food distribution in the strip, is mentioned by the organizations.
”The militarized system for food distribution has armed hunger", says Aitor Zabalgogeazkoa, Doctors Without Borders' emergency coordinator in Gaza, in the statement.
"Distribution at GHF sites has resulted in extreme levels of violence and killing, mainly of young Palestinian men, but also women and children, who have gone to the sites in the hope of being able to get food.”
According to, among others, the UN, the levels of starvation and malnutrition in Gaza are record high. Hamas-controlled authorities state that more than 100 children and nearly 130 adults have died from hunger-related causes since the end of June.
