In western Norway, a yellow warning for snowfall has been issued over the weekend. During Saturday morning, 39 centimeters of snow were measured in Bergen – 18 centimeters more than the previous day.
It's a lot for Bergen and there's more to come, says Geir Ottar Fagerlid, duty meteorologist at the Meteorological Institute in Norway, to Bergenavisen.
The snow is expected to remain for another week – unusual in western Norway, where relatively mild Atlantic winds usually prevail.
We had a period of snow last year as well, but this year the snow is unusually long-lasting, says Geir Ottar Fagerlid.
During the night to Saturday, traffic accidents were reported at several locations in western Norway due to slippery road conditions, but no serious personal injuries have been reported.
Both Bergen and Stavanger airports are experiencing delays on Saturday morning after the snowfall. At the same time, there are major delays in local traffic in Bergen.
Even on Friday, western and central Norway received large amounts of snow, which led to extensive problems in everything from air to ferry traffic. In the Trøndelag region, all bus traffic was suspended early in the morning but could later be resumed.
