Unclear situation for Israel blockade

It is unclear whether the Dockworkers' Union's blockade of war materials to and from Israel will begin next week. The Labour Court did not give the clearance that the trade union had hoped for.

The Dockworkers' Union has announced a blockade that is set to take effect on January 28.

However, the employer, Swedish Ports, has opposed it, which led the union to turn to the Labour Court. The goal was to obtain an interim decision allowing the blockade.

The court rejected the application, citing that neither party had further developed what consequences the blockade could have.

What will happen to the announcement now is unclear, according to the union's vice chairman Erik Helgeson.

Their decision was actually not to make a decision. But we didn't get the green light either, so we'll see what the next step is, he says.

Swedish Ports, on the other hand, welcomes Thursday's decision, which according to them means that the announcement must be withdrawn.

"It's good that the Labour Court has now clarified that political industrial actions may not affect an employer's right to decide on their business operations, except in extremely limited circumstances", says CEO Marcus Dahlsten in a press release.
