The amusement park section of Kivik's market was closed after the fatal accident on Friday. It is unclear when it will open again, says the amusement park's CEO Tony Andreasson, to Ystads Allehanda.
I am so terribly sorry. I really regret what has happened, he says to the newspaper.
A gust of wind caused the market stall to tip over onto visitors on Friday afternoon. Four people were injured. One injured person was taken to hospital and two people were referred to the health center. A 55-year-old man was so seriously injured that he died.
This stall was bought by my dad 20 years ago and nothing has happened in 20 years. This has never happened before, says Tony Andreasson to Expressen.
After the accident, Tony Andreasson decided to close the amusement park and send all staff home. The market continues until Monday and whether the amusement park will open again, he does not yet know. He is waiting for the police investigation.
The market will, however, remain open.
I do not have control over that in the same way. There are 500-600 vendors who have paid for their spot. I cannot tell them to go home, says Andreasson to Ystads Allehanda.
The police have launched a preliminary investigation into, among other things, gross negligence leading to another's death. The CEO describes the accident as the worst that has happened in his long career as a market organizer.
The absolute worst possible.
