Russian soldiers who have been placed in Kursk are trying to advance in areas controlled by Ukraine, according to Ukraine's supreme commander Oleksandr Syrskyj.
"On orders from their military leadership, they are trying to push our soldiers back and advance deep into the territory we control," he writes on the messaging service Telegram.
"If it weren't for our soldiers' resilience, these tens of thousands of enemies from the best Russian task forces would have stormed our positions," writes Syrskyj.
Over the weekend, authorities in Ukraine and the USA reported that over 50,000 soldiers have gathered in western Russia and that an offensive, including North Korean forces, is feared in the coming days.
Russian forces have already retaken part of the Russian territory that Ukraine has held since August, but so far, no major counter-offensive has been carried out in the Russian border region.
