The scandal revolves around the popular 52-year-old program leader and pop star Masahiro Nakai. The press has been hard on the TV company since it emerged that he is accused of sexually assaulting a woman who worked at the TV company last year, and then paid her a large sum of money to keep quiet.
The management of Fuji TV has admitted that they were aware of the allegations before Japanese media began reporting on them about a month ago.
Masahiro Nakai was previously a member of the Japanese pop band SMAP, which was enormous in Asia in the 1990s and 2000s. He announced on Friday that he is leaving all his TV assignments and took full responsibility for what happened.
