Justice Ministers in 22 states, including California and New York, have submitted a joint lawsuit to block the decree.
The President's decree to attempt to revoke citizenship is blatantly in violation of the Constitution and, frankly, un-American, says California's Justice Minister Rob Bonta.
If the presidential order becomes a reality, it would prevent the federal government from issuing passports, citizenship certificates or other documents to children whose mothers are in the country illegally or temporarily and whose father is not an American citizen or permanent resident in the USA.
The right to citizenship for all born on American soil is guaranteed by the 14th Amendment to the country's Constitution.
