USA's President Donald Trump says that Hamas is weakened, but that he is not sure if the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas will hold.

I'm not sure, said Trump to reporters at the White House on his first day as president.

It's not our war. It's their war, he continued.

Trump said further that his government "possibly" can help with the reconstruction of Gaza. He compared the war-torn area to a "massive demolition site".

Beautiful things could be done with it, said Trump and noted Gaza's "phenomenal" weather and coastal location.

On his first day, Trump lifted sanctions that Joe Biden had imposed on right-wing Israeli settlers on the Israeli-occupied West Bank. The settlers have been accused of using violence against Palestinians after the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7, 2023.
