The newly elected President of the USA writes on his platform Truth Social that he wants to do "President Putin a great favor".
"We can make it easy or hard for you – and the easy way is always better for you", he writes.
"It (the war) will only get worse. If we don't get an agreement soon, I have no other choice but to impose high taxes and punitive tariffs and sanctions on all goods that Russia sells to the USA and other participating countries", he writes, but at the same time assures that he "loves" the Russian people and has always gotten along well with Putin.
Earlier in the day, he had said at a press conference that "it sounds reasonable" with sanctions if Putin doesn't want to discuss an end to the war in Ukraine.
On Tuesday, Trump said that he will "soon" talk to Putin and added that the latter is destroying his own country by not reaching an agreement with Ukraine.
