Roozbeh Vadi was sentenced for having shared information with Israel that led to a nuclear researcher becoming a target in the twelve-day war between Iran and Israel earlier this year, according to state-run Iranian media.
Executions have increased since the war – in July this year, 110 people were executed, compared to 48 people during the same month last year. Three of July's executions took place publicly, in one case children were present in the audience, according to the Norway-based organization Iran Human Rights.
Among those considered to be at increased risk of execution is Swedish-Iranian Ahmadreza Djalali, who is also sentenced to death for espionage charges. In connection with the war, he was separated from his fellow prisoners and taken to an unknown location.
Executions in Iran are often political, and occur after arbitrary trials where confessions forced under torture are used as evidence.
