The President of the USA, Donald Trump, has signed a presidential decree to stop what he calls "radical indoctrination in elementary and high schools". The decision to remove the book is explained by the fact that the Pentagon is investigating library books that can be described as "potentially linked to gender ideology or discriminatory equality ideology".
Julianne Moore writes on Instagram that she is shocked. She writes that the book is a partially autobiographical story about a seven-year-old girl who dislikes her freckles but learns to live with them when she realizes that she is different "just like everyone else".
"It's a book I wrote for my children and for other children to remind them that we all have it tough, but that we are united in our humanity and our community."
The decision affects 160 schools worldwide, where children of military personnel attend.
Moore, who is herself the daughter of a former military officer, attended one of the Pentagon's schools in Frankfurt, Germany.
