Singer Dua Lipa has officially become a citizen of Kosovo, the country where she lived between the ages of 11 and 15.

At a ceremony led by the country's president Vjosa Osmani, Dua Lipa, born in London to Kosovo Albanian parents, received her citizenship.

In a statement, Dua Lipa says that the citizenship "unites my two sides" and "means a lot to me and my family". President Osmani praised her as one of Kosovo's great entertainment profiles.

The family left Kosovo during the war in the 1990s, but has continued to have close contact with their homeland.

Together with her father Dukagjin Lipa, she started the festival Sunny Hill, which is now Kosovo's largest music festival. This year she is one of the main acts, along with Shawn Mendes and Peggy Gou.

Dukagjin Lipa played in the band Oda during the 1980s and is now Dua Lipa's manager.

Dua Lipa is now a citizen of the United Kingdom, Albania, and Kosovo. She has previously been an honorary ambassador for Kosovo and received the keys to the city of Pristina.
