This is the message in a post on social media from the incoming president to the one who will become the Republicans' new group leader in the Senate.
Trump wants to be able to use his appointment power even when Congress is not in session, to bypass the Senate regarding, for example, ministerial appointments through so-called recess appointments.
In the post, which was published on both Truth Social and X on Sunday, Trump claims that this is necessary to get people "approved within a reasonable timeframe" and that the posts should be able to be filled "AT ONCE!".
The move comes ahead of Republican Mitch McConnell, who has held the position for two decades, stepping down. Three members – John Thune, John Cornyn, and Rick Scott – are running to take over.
The Senate has not allowed presidents to appoint government candidates in this way since 2014, when the Supreme Court limited the president's power regarding the procedure.
The Senate is one of the two chambers of the US Congress. The other is the House of Representatives.
