Vladimir Putin is destroying his own country by not reaching an agreement with Ukraine, according to Donald Trump.

He should enter into an agreement. I think he is ruining Russia by not entering into an agreement. I believe that Russia will have big problems, said Trump in the Oval Office at the White House after Monday's presidential inauguration.

Trump says he gets along well with Putin and that he believes Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyj wants a peace agreement.

Most people thought the war would be over in a week and now it's entering its third year, said Trump.

Vladimir Putin says he is open to talks about the Ukraine war.

I want to emphasize that the goal should not be a short ceasefire, but a lasting peace based on respect for all people's legitimate interests, says the Russian president on Russian state TV.
