Two men and a woman are being prosecuted for extensive vandalism of a substation in Kimsta in Norrköping Municipality earlier this year, local media report.
The prosecutor suspects that the trio broke into the civilian protection facility to steal metal. They allegedly smashed several transformers to get to the metals – approximately 200 kilos of metal and 150 kilos of brass alloy.
The damage to the substation, which is deemed to be of significant importance for Sweden's power grid and electricity supply, is estimated to cost tens of millions of kronor to repair.
In connection with the destruction, 4,000 liters of oil have leaked out and some transformations will not be able to be repaired or will take a long time to restore.
The trio is suspected of gross sabotage, alternatively gross vandalism. In addition, they are being prosecuted for unauthorized access to a protected object and theft.
