In the review conducted last year, the Chemicals Agency examined 84 products from a total of 23 e-retailers. These included toys, jewelry, and electronics.
The products were purchased from web stores, from so-called dropshipping stores that lack their own inventory, and from marketplaces.
Among the examined products, high levels of lead were found in electrical products and cadmium in jewelry.
"As many as 62 percent of the products we purchased from marketplaces contained hazardous substances," says Daniel Ahlström, inspector at the Chemicals Agency, in a press release.
For dropshipping stores, that figure was 55 percent, and for web stores 25 percent.
After the e-retailers were informed of the review results, the products with defects were removed from the product range.
