The President of the USA, Donald Trump, is threatening India with introducing at least 25-percent tariffs on goods from the country, he writes on his social media platform Truth Social.
Trump motivates the tariffs among other things with that India's tariffs are "among the highest in the world", that the country has "repellent non-monetary trade barriers" and buys weapons and energy from Russia.
"India will therefore pay a tariff of 25 percent, plus a penalty for the above", the President concludes.
The tariffs will come into force on August 1.
