It was a considerable recovery from the downturn of 4.6 in May.

Compared to the corresponding month in 2024, the retail trade's sales volume increased by 2.0 percent in June.

Specialised store trade increased by 3.9 percent and daily goods trade excluding Systembolaget increased by 0.7 percent.

But overall, retail sales are still weak, despite the June increase, writes Nordea in a comment. Total sales have decreased by 1.5 percent so far this year, mainly due to the weak figures in May.

”The decline in food sales since the turn of the year is a disappointment and suggests that households are having difficulty adapting to the higher food prices”, Nordea writes further.

The bank assesses, however, that there are conditions for a gradual recovery of both sales within the retail trade and households' total consumption.
