After a fourth place in the slalom premiere, it went heavier for Anna Swenn-Larsson in Austrian Gurgl.
After the first run, the Swede was no better than shared 27th, a whole 2.36 behind leading Shiffrin, and barely made it to the second run. Only Swedish Estelle Alphand was worse.
In the second run, however, there was an upswing, and the 33-year-old climbed several places on the leaderboard. But the damage was already done.
Swenn-Larsson ultimately finished in a modest 15th place.
Instead, it was Sara Hector who was the best Swedish skier in eighth place after the first run, 1.01 behind. And in the second run, she continued to deliver. Hector crossed the finish line as the new leader with seven skiers remaining.
But there was no further climb. The 2022 OS gold medalist retained her eighth place from the first run.
The winner was, unsurprisingly, Mikaela Shiffrin, who took her 99th victory in the World Cup.
Cornelia Öhlund also made it to the second run, and finished in 14th place.
