The man succeeded in February – without either a ticket or a passport – to get past the staff at Schwechat Airport and board a plane. Once on board, he hid in a toilet, but was discovered during the journey by cabin crew from Hainan Airlines.
The Afghan man, however, had gone through security checks properly, where it was established that he was not carrying any prohibited items, reports the newspaper Kronen Zeitung.
After landing, he was handed over to Chinese authorities and was then immediately sent back to Vienna, where he is now being investigated for a crime.
The airport and the police assure the public that the incident has been evaluated and measures are being taken to improve security.
