Bad weather disrupted training - "Balloons that were released"

The red weather warning in Spain forces the national football team to return home prematurely. The rain poured down, the thunder roared and today's training had to be interrupted after a little over half a session. It didn't feel like rain, more like water balloons were released, says assistant national team captain Sebastian Larsson.

Enormous amounts of rain over eastern and southern Spain recently cost over 200 people their lives, and Spanish authorities issued a red warning for extreme rainfall late on Tuesday evening.

A warning that in clear text means a significant risk to life and property.

This led the national team management to break camp in Spain prematurely. The team leaves Marbella on Thursday for a training session at Stockholm Stadium in the evening. Not a single full training session with the entire squad was completed in Spain.

"We are flexible"

I don't think it will disturb us. We are quite flexible, the association has worked hard behind the scenes to rearrange everything. It's no problem for us, says national team coach Jon Dahl Tomasson.

Then he hadn't experienced the bad weather that was parked over the sun coast.

Shortly after the players started training at Marbella Football Center, it began to pour down. Thunderclaps were also heard.

The planned one and a half hour long session had to be interrupted. It was simply raining too much.

The plan was completely soaked, there wasn't much we could do. It just poured down and then started filling up along the edges so the ball stopped, says debutant Nils Zetterström.

"A bit of chaos today"

It was a bit of chaos today, but that's how it is sometimes. It was like water polo, says Lucas Bergvall.

We had to interrupt and run a bit at the end instead, says Carl Starfelt.

Players and leaders unanimously think that the flop-betoned visit to Marbella shouldn't have any negative impact on Saturday's meeting with Slovakia in the Nations League.

Viktor Johansson, who has stood all four NL matches, did individual indoor training, but is expected to play on Saturday.

Hugo Bolin, Malmö FF, has so far missed the gathering due to a foot injury and is now written out of the squad. Striker Isac Lidberg, SV Darmstadt, is called in instead.

Sweden concludes the Nations League against Azerbaijan on Tuesday. Both matches are played at Strawberry Arena. Both Sweden and Slovakia have ten points after four rounds.

The U21 national team is simultaneously in Marbella. The international match against Ireland on Thursday has had its kick-off time changed, from 13.00 to 20.00. Then, the weather forecast says the rain will have cleared.
