Jesper Tjäder took Olympic Games bronze in slopestyle in Beijing 2022. Now he will miss the rest of the season, including the World Championship in Swiss Engadin in March, and likely also the beginning of next competition season.
It was during the qualification in slopestyle, at the World Cup competition in Aspen in the USA, that Tjäder got injured.
"Jesper got a rotational force against his right knee in the landing after a jump", says national team doctor Jacob Swanberg in a press release.
The 30-year-old underwent an MRI examination after returning to Sweden, where it was confirmed that the anterior cruciate ligament is torn.
"It looks relatively good otherwise in the knee without any major associated injuries and we are planning for a fairly quick operation. Jesper will unfortunately be out for the rest of the season. We expect it to take about a year to fully recover from an injury like this", says Swanberg.
The Olympic Games in Milano Cortina, where the freestyle events will be held in Livigno, start on February 6 next year.
