"We are pleased that we have now found a solution that means we will take over the research and library operations that previously lay within SRF from December 1, 2024. All employees are being offered employment within Sveriges Radio", writes program director Sofia Wadensjö Karén in the Journalisten magazine.
According to the program director, one needs to "review costs and streamline", a task that is to be completed by May 2025. The service will also continue to be available to employees at SVT and Utbildningsradion.
The plans to shut down the operations, run by Sveriges Radio Förvaltning (SRF), were presented in connection with the announcement that SRF needs to save 16 million kronor.
The criticism has been harsh towards SVT and SR, where hundreds of employees have signed a petition against the plans.
This is a stab in the heart of public service, said Oskar Anesten, editor of "K Special" and one of the initiators, to Dagens Nyheter in September.
Even the trade unions DIK and Journalistförbundet have demanded that the operations be saved.
