The dog Loubo has been saved from being put down.
French film star Alain Delon passed away on Sunday and had stated several years ago that he wanted to be buried with his beloved dog.
Animal lovers feared that Loubo, a Belgian Shepherd, would be put down and buried according to the star's will.
But now the rescue has come – via the animal rights activist and former film star Brigitte Bardot's foundation, which writes on X that "Loubo will of course not be put down" and that Delon's sons will continue to take care of the dog.
On the foundation's website, Bardot writes about her friendship with Delon, whom she has known since they both broke through in the late 1950s.
"His passing has created an unfathomable void that nothing, and no one, will be able to fill", she writes, and praises Delon's love for both his fellow humans and animals.
Alain Delon was one of France's most well-known actors and worked with several of France's and Italy's top directors. He was 88 years old.
