ViaPlay took over the rights to winter sports under the International Ski and Snowboard Federation's (FIS) umbrella from SVT in 2021. Now, the agreement with FIS has been extended until 2030.

This includes the World Cup in cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, ski jumping, Nordic combined, freestyle, freeskiing, and snowboarding. The only major winter sport still broadcast on SVT is biathlon.

"It feels incredibly fun and inspiring to continue broadcasting winter sports. Our broadcasts, with proximity to the ski tracks and athletes, give viewers an insight into the exciting sport. Winter sports engage many people in Sweden and remain one of our major national sports," says ViaPlay's sports manager Erik Westberg in a press release.

In the same vein, ViaPlay has also secured TV rights to the men's Handball European Championship in 2028 and 2030, as well as the Champions League and European League in handball until 2030.

And already this weekend, the channel will also start broadcasting the French top division in men's football, Ligue 1. The agreement applies until 2029.
