The Norwegian police will carry weapons during the upcoming wedding between Princess Märtha Louise and American Durek Verrett on Saturday. The police announced this at a press conference on Wednesday, at the same time emphasizing that there is no explicit threat to either the event or the guests.
This is a purely preventive measure to create security since we expect a large crowd, says Police Chief Kenneth Sætre.
In Norway, the police do not usually carry weapons, but in special cases, the Ministry of Justice approves temporary arming.
Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett's wedding is formally a private event, but interest is great both in Norway and abroad.
Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel, as well as Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia, will attend the wedding, as previously announced by the Swedish court.
