Of course, it's a large sum. It's not just the event itself, but also the weeks leading up to it, says Per Engström, commanding officer at the National Operational Department (Noa).

The high costs were due to the large protests against Israel's participation in the competition. The Eurovision Song Contest took place in Malmö in mid-May this year – and now the final sum for the police operation has been made public.

Over 1,000 Swedish police officers were on site in Malmö, but police forces were also borrowed from Denmark and Norway. Their costs for wages and accommodation were covered by the Swedish police authority.
