In some parts of the world, people have already bid farewell to 2024 and welcomed 2025. In other places, people are getting ready to celebrate the New Year.

The small Pacific nation of Kiribati was the first to ring in the new year at 11:00 am Swedish time. During the hours that followed, it also became 2025 in New Zealand.

In Sydney, the new year was traditionally rung in with fireworks at the opera house at 2:00 pm Swedish time.

Thousands gathered to see the sky fill with colors and glitter from nine tons of fireworks.

To see all the beautiful colors and enjoy this experience with so many people in beautiful Australia, says retired nurse Ruth Rowse.

For others, 2025 came with a bittersweet relief.

It would have been nice if the world just fixed itself, says Stuart Edwards.

The last to celebrate the new year is the USA. In Los Angeles, the clock will not strike 12 until tomorrow at 9:00 am Swedish time.
