On Tuesday, Emmanuel Macron will visit the Louvre after the museum director's alarm.
"The Louvre is a French symbol, a French pride. We cannot stand idly by and ignore what threatens the museum", says the president's office in a statement.
It was last week that it emerged that the museum director Laurence des Cars had alerted to the Louvre's decline in a letter to Culture Minister Rachida Dati. Among other things, parts of the building are in such poor condition that water is leaking in and there are such temperature fluctuations that the art is threatened.
8.7 million visitors visit the museum each year to see some of the world's most famous artworks, such as the Mona Lisa.
The building itself dates back to the 12th century and became a palace for the French king in the 16th century. Since 1793, the Louvre has been an art museum.
