Influential hip-hop mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs has been detained for three weeks awaiting trial. Janice Smalls Combs says in a written statement to the New York Post that it is devastating to follow what has happened and the headlines it has caused.
"Having to see what appears to be a public lynching of my son before he has had the chance to prove his innocence is so painful that it cannot be described in words", says Diddy's mother.
The prosecutors accuse Combs of having led a "sex crime empire" and forced women to, among other things, have sex with male prostitutes in day-long "sex shows", so-called "freak offs".
Combs has previously been accused of several cases of sexual assault and abuse. His ex-girlfriend, the artist Cassie, dropped her police report last year after reaching a settlement.
According to Janice Smalls Combs, this is why he has now ended up in the spotlight for new accusations.
"Just because he hasn't been completely open about one thing doesn't mean my son is guilty of the terrible things he is accused of and the gross suspicions directed at him", she says.
