According to the report that Liljestrand ordered from the Agency for Cultural Analysis, more private cultural funding can lead to a broader cultural range but also to artistic and cultural adaptation.
Parisa Liljestrand, however, sees no risks with more private financing – on the contrary.
Doing nothing is the greatest risk; the state will always need to take responsibility for culture, but cultural life would generally benefit from more financing sources. Backing away from that is perhaps the worst alternative.
Should the state's cultural budget be reduced?
That is not the purpose of this.
The report mentions concerns about projectification and that private financiers could influence content.
My view is entirely the opposite. I do not share that image and that concern, I can understand it, but if one is too dependent on a single source, solely the public one, I believe one is more exposed to political governance, we have seen examples of that – from both right and left.
