The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute is warning on Wednesday of torrential rain in the eastern parts of Norrbotten and Västerbotten counties.
This involves powerful thunderstorms that can bring large amounts of rain in a short time, with a risk of both flooding and power outages. Locally, up to 50 millimetres of rain can fall in a short time, writes the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute on its website.
But as the rain moves north during the day, the risk of forest fires also increases in the south. The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute is now warning of forest fires on Gotland, Öland, and in eastern Götaland and large parts of Skåne.
On Gotland, the risk is described as "very high" and the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute is urging great caution when it comes to outdoor fires.
