It has been clear for some time that Sarah Sjöström and Michelle Coleman will not participate in the World Championship in short course swimming.
Now, another Olympic swimmer is withdrawing.
Erik Persson, the European Championship gold medalist in the 200 meter breaststroke event this summer, has had problems with an infection this autumn.
Like many other Swedes, he has had mycoplasma and had to take antibiotics. Having swum so many World Championships, he wants to be able to perform. If it had been his first World Championship, he would have definitely gone and hoped that his body would function, says Martina Aronsson.
Now that he has swum so many World Championships, maybe it's better to take a training period and aim for the summer, when the 2025 World Championship in Singapore is the major championship, adds Aronsson.
Persson achieved one of his greatest successes in Budapest two years ago, when he won the World Championship silver medal in the 200 meter breaststroke.
At that time, it was long course swimming that applied.
Sweden's World Championship team will now consist of 13 swimmers, including Olympic swimmers Louise Hansson, Sophie Hansson, Sara Junevik, and Victor Johansson.
The World Championship in short course swimming starts on Tuesday and will continue throughout the week.
