After Jens Lind's documentary "Sessan – a royal saga" from 2022, he and the princess had weekly phone contact. Among other things, the conversations revolved around their shared interest in golf. On Wednesday, the court announced that she had passed away at the age of 87.
I'm completely shocked, we spoke on the phone just the other day. We had close contact. There was nothing that indicated this would happen, he says to TT, and continues:
We laughed and had fun as usual. It was short and happy conversations.
Got close during filmmaking
During the making of the documentary, the two got close, and Jens Lind asked questions that perhaps no one else had asked before, he says. In the documentary, Birgitta looks back on her life with the help of archive material she had not seen before.
When the documentary was finished, he flew down to Mallorca, where the princess had lived since the 1990s, and showed her the film. She was given free rein to cut out parts, but everything had to stay.
She was incredibly happy and so proud of it. I've flown down several times since then and met her.
He valued the friendship highly and describes her as a person with wonderful humor.
It's probably the most unexpected friendship in my life.
"A normal girl and woman"
Princess Birgitta will leave her mark as a very happy and positive person who socialized with many different people, according to Jens Lind. She loved her family very much – and both family and siblings had great importance.
She probably handled all her royal duties just as well as expected, but behind all that, she was a normal girl and woman who wanted to have some fun and live like everyone else.
