The time has thus been moved forward one second from how it was set last year, and the clock has never been closer to midnight since it was created 78 years ago. The assessment is made by a council of researchers and other experts in, among other things, nuclear technology and climate science, in collaboration with the magazine Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists (BAS).
The new time signals that it is a form of madness to continue along the path that the world is currently on, according to the press release that announced the dystopian clock strike on Tuesday.
The last time the time was changed was in 2023, when the clock was set to 90 seconds before midnight.
