The American comedian Bob Newhart has passed away after a period of illness.
Newhart broke through as a stand-up comedian in the late 1950s and had great success with sitcoms on American TV during the 1970s and 1980s.
Newhart has also appeared in a number of films, such as "Catch-22" from 1970 and "Elf" from 2003. He voiced the character Bernard in the original version of the Disney film "The Rescuers" from 1977. In recent years, he has been seen in the TV series "The Big Bang Theory".
Bob Newhart was 94 years old.
