The film is directed by Göran Hugo Olsson, previously internationally noted for films like ”The black power mixtape 1967–1975” and ”Concerning violence”. The film is produced by him and Tobias Janson, and is an examination of how the conflict between Israel and Palestine has been portrayed in Swedish public service.
The documentary had its international premiere at the film festival in Berlin this year. It raises questions about the role of journalism in portraying conflicts, and also highlights Sweden's position in the geopolitical discussion, which is even more burning today.
This year, three out of the seven nominated films for the film prize are documentaries, and also ”The Helsinki effect” is an archival documentary – the director Arthur Franck has reviewed hundreds of hours of video material from the conference that led to the Helsinki Agreement in 1975, an important milestone during the Cold War.
Among the other nominees are, for example, the Norwegian ”Drömmar”, with script and direction by Dag Johan Haugerud – a drama film about Johanne, who falls in love with her French teacher.
The winner of the prestigious prize will be announced on October 21
