In the message from Norwegian People's Aid, it is emphasized that the mine and bomb clearance that the organization is working with in twelve countries is directly affected.
"Freezing support for mine and bomb clearance does not only stop current efforts. It delays, and in the worst case, reverses the enormous efforts that the world – with the USA at the forefront – has made to combat these brutal weapons", writes the organization's Secretary General Raymond Johansen.
The population in, among others, Iraq, Yemen, Laos, and Vietnam is directly affected when the ongoing mine clearance efforts are stopped, notes Johansen.
It has been over a week since the Trump administration shut down the aid agency USAID and laid off its staff. What remains of the operation has been taken over by Foreign Minister Marco Rubio and his department.
