The earthquake's epicenter is located around 200 kilometers south of Istanbul and occurred at a depth of 8 kilometers, according to the European earthquake monitoring agency EMSC.

According to the newspaper Hurriyet, the tremor was felt in the million-city and many cities in the Marmara region, among them Izmir.

The newspaper has published pictures of a demolished house, but there is no information about injured or dead people.

At least one aftershock, with a magnitude of 4.6, has also been recorded during the early Sunday evening.
