”On August 31, we are launching the largest attempt ever to break the illegal siege of Gaza with dozens of boats that will set sail from Spain. We will join with dozens more on September 4, which will set sail from Tunisia”, she writes in a post on Instagram.

Behind the initiative is Global Sumud Flotilla, which on its website describes itself as an ”independent, international” organization ”without connection to governments or political parties”. According to the organization, delegations from 44 countries will participate in the initiative. In addition to participating in the sailing, Thunberg will also be part of the organization's steering committee, they write in a press release.

In a video clip on Global Sumud Flotilla's Instagram page, which was published on Sunday, besides the 22-year-old from Sweden, several other activists and well-known persons can be seen, including Gustav Skarsgård, who describes the initiative as ”a joint effort from coalitions, organizations and ordinary people from all over the world”.

In June, Greta Thunberg sailed together with other activists towards Gaza on the ship Madleen, which was boarded by Israeli forces before they reached Gaza. The crew was later deported from Israel.
