More than 1,000 people were evacuated in northwestern Spain on Sunday due to wildfires that have intensified as a result of high temperatures and strong winds.

Alfonso Manueco, who leads the regional government in Castile and León, says that several of the fires are suspected to be arson.

The extreme heat that has affected parts of the country is expected to continue at least until Thursday.
