Tens of thousands of people stood in line on Thursday morning to get information about the higher education and university programs they had applied to for the fall.
The website Antagning.se had a digital waiting room where some had to wait for up to an hour. Those who accessed the website could use the site for a maximum of 20 minutes, it said in the waiting room.
The Swedish Council for Higher Education has troubleshooted the problem but still does not know what caused the long waiting time, says Åke Lernefalk, press officer at the agency, to TT.
We have prepared for capacity, but something happened when everyone pressed the door at the same time. Everyone is eager to find out if they got in, he says.
On Thursday, hundreds of thousands of people will receive information about whether they have been accepted into the fall courses and programs. This year, there are 405,000 applicants, which is eight percent more than in the fall of 2023.
