Around 40 websites connected to Gothenburg city are inaccessible. The reason is a cyber intrusion, reports P4 Gothenburg.
The intrusion was discovered on July 1st and a web server has been forced to shut down to prevent further damage.
When we discovered it, we isolated the entire environment, which made it so the public could no longer access the websites, says Niklas Törnqvist, information security coordinator at Gothenburg city.
The municipality has reported the incident to the police and is working intensively to make the pages available again. Niklas Törnqvist cannot answer what is behind the cyber attack.
Unfortunately, I cannot comment on that yet, as investigation secrecy applies. We have taken a number of measures and have a workflow, so that nothing more happens, says Niklas Törnqvist.
One of the affected websites is stadsbiblioteket.se, which means that people may need to go to the libraries to borrow books for the time being. Apart from that, it is mainly information pages that are inaccessible.
