66 Chinese military planes were detected around Taiwan during the last 24 hours, announced the island's defense department on Thursday morning.
Chinese planes flying near Taiwan is a recurring phenomenon, but the figure is a record high for this year. The planes are said to have flown six miles off Taiwan's southern coast.
China views the self-governing democratic Taiwan as part of its own territory, and has not ruled out the use of force to take control of the island.
