The Swedish households' gross and net wealth decreased during the fourth quarter of 2024, according to SEB's savings barometer. But for the full year, an unusually strong increase is noted.

Several asset classes declined, but the downturn was primarily driven by a negative development on the stock market.

Looking at the whole of 2024, the development was strong, and households' net wealth increased by 1,900 billion kronor, which was a larger increase than the average over the past decade.

"The fourth quarter was characterized by both stock market turbulence following the US presidential election and a negative housing price development. Together, they created a somewhat gloomy ending to a 2024 that otherwise became a strong wealth year for households," says SEB's private economist Américo Fernández in a press release.
