Jesper Bratt, the 26-year-old from Stockholm, equalized in the first period to 1–1, contributed with an assist in the second period and then finalized the result to 4–2 in the third when his New Jersey defeated Carolina.
For New Jersey goalkeeper Jacob Markström, who saved 20 shots, it was match number 500 in the NHL.
Playing 500 matches is something you can only dream of as a younger player, he says to reporters after the match.
The guys made it special, they played a good match and the fans were fantastic. It made it extra special and it was nice to get a win too.
Swedish goal bonanza
San Jose's Alexander Wennberg also scored two goals during the evening – including an equalizer to 2–2 with only nine seconds left in the final period.
But the 30-year-old from Stockholm still saw himself defeated, when St Louis won 3–2 after penalties.
When New York Islanders met Detroit, the result was three goals – all scored by Swedes.
Islanders forward Simon Holmström gave the visitors the lead barely six minutes into the first period, which they then kept almost the entire match.
Not until five minutes left in the third period did Detroit's Jonatan Berggren equalize. Four minutes later – with only 50 seconds left of the match – two more Detroit Swedes stepped forward and decided. Simon Edvinsson contributed with an assist to Lucas Raymond who scored the winning goal. Detroit won 2–1.
"A very big evening"
It's easy to let frustration sneak in when the shots don't go in, says Lucas Raymond about the fact that the opponents led large parts of the match.
Our goal came with what, five minutes left? A lovely win, definitely.
The win was important for Detroit, which had previously lost three matches in a row.
This was a very big evening for us. It's just a start, but it's something to build on, says Raymond.
Also when Utah met Boston, there were Swedish points. In an otherwise goalless match, Elias Lindholm set 1–0 in the second period and gave his Boston the win.
